You should make sure if you are experiencing emotional pain, depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety or you think you have any mental health problem, you have a medical professional on your side. I went through 100’s before I started getting better. Don’t give up. You are not alone. Your mental health affects your physical health. You are sick. Seek help. Keep trying until you find what’s right for you.
Global Support Groups
With any 12 step group, the new starters comments are the same the world over. It feels like a cult, I’m not into “God” or “Higher Power”, I’m not an “alcoholic” or a “addict”. I didn’t go until all the medical help in the world wasn’t working. See it this way, ignore all the bits you don’t like, ignore the labels and talk about what you are feeling in a room with no judgement. You might just get some support. If one group doesn’t work for you, try another one. I started from an atheist/agnostic LGBT AA group and spread to others. I don’t believe in God, I’m not following a structured recovery, but I am using the groups to talk about all the pain I have experienced, and what I feel right there and then. Do it your way – no recovery is the same.
Go to one and see. It’s just group therapy. You are not alone. Keep trying.
